Machines take damage if they are burnt or broken as a result of their action, and while the player can maintain some level of control, eventually everything will fall apart. This game offers highly realistic physics despite the hilariously impossible nature of many of the machines. While the machine editor is amazing, the real shining factor of the game is the physics engine. It would be nice if there was a cheat guide that detailed the function of each machine element, but testing them out is also a fun way to find out. Should you create an ultimate weapon that you'd like to use again, you can save your designs for future use. The machine editor doesn't come with any sort of manual, which can be confusing at first, but most players quickly overcome any learning curve. If you want to build a tower that sprays fire, that is an option as well. If you want to build a train with catapults along the back, you can. The player must select elements they want to add, then select the location they want those pieces to be added. Elements include wheels, springs, pistons, explosives, flamethrowers, blades, propellors, and much more.Ĭreating a war machine is quite simple. Some advanced materials will unlock as the player progresses. Players will have access to just about all the materials they will need for building impressive war machines. As long as the objective is completed, it doesn't matter what tool the player uses. One level might include a minefield, in which case the player would incorporate a mobile guard tower or a simple aircraft to avoid those bombs. ![]() The amazing part of the game is that players have the freedom to destroy their targets in just about any way they want.Įach level will start with the player building a machine of war that is best suited for the objective laid out for the level. This might be a stronghold, an enemy out in the open, or a strategic point. The player must advance through 15 levels by destroying the enemy in whatever form it takes. This game includes some of the most entertaining features of any war-style game. The technology was greatly improved, for example, by the introduction of a structural integrity system as well as full support of DirectX 11 libraries.Besiege is a simulation game that allows the player to build and test out war machines, and it includes a number of elements that open up the creativity of the player to new heights. ![]() Medieval Engineers for PC is powered by the VRAGE engine, known from the previous games of the developer. Regardless of the chosen mode, combat takes place using siege engines and fortifications only, no direct confrontation of land units occurs. In the latter, we cooperate with other players to repel barbarian attacks led by the AI. There are both competitive and cooperative game modes to choose from. The game is meant primarily for multiplayer play. At the same time, the interface is user-friendly and allows us to create new objects quickly and easily, although more complicated machines require proper planning. The gameplay is driven by an advanced physics engine that calculates resistance and behavior of erected objects on the basis of their shape, weight, and materials used. The players mainly use technologies which were actually available to the medieval engineers and constructors. ![]() The developers took a realistic approach to the game.

![]() Every one of the games dozen or so levels look unique, from starting out in the graveyard killing the undead which rise from the dirt, to travelling on the back of a wagon throwing lances at harpies which are trying to drop boiling cauldrons on you from above. The graphics are pixel perfect 16 bit art, with nice animations and a great arcade feel. You can aim your attacks to hit above and below by holding up or down as you throw, but that’s it, and once again it’s all the better for it. Any other additions would have seen you fumbling for the right action at the most inopportune times, and the developer has wisely omitted any needless special attacks or fancy graphical effects in favour of simple, precise control. Killing the zombies and demons of this cursed land, avoiding their attacks and trying not to fall to your death while doing so is a pleasure because of the tight, pick up and play mechanics. It’s the tight, simple gameplay of yesteryear, and this straightforward approach plays to the games strengths. You have a button to jump, and another to throw lances, axes, or anything else you may pick up on your travels. ![]() As this Knight, you progress left-to-right, and sometimes bottom-to-top, through run and gun platforming levels. You play the part of a Knight of the Kingdom of Castile, although any semblance of story and characterisation is almost nonexistent, and largely irrelevant. ![]() For those who have no basis for comparison, read on! Not the Knight’s underwear the gameplay, I mean. For some people, that will be enough to make or break their experience with the game. It’s practically identical to the classic 1985 Capcom arcade game – the only thing we don’t have here is the hero in his love-heart boxers. Maldita Castilla EX is Ghosts ‘n’ Goblins in all but name. Praise the Lord, then, that it’s most definitely, certainly, absolutely not. Of course, all of the above achievements would be meaningless if the game was a steaming turd. This right here is the most convincing 16 bit game you’ll play without actually booting up your SNES or Megadrive, or wiring your Amiga to an old CRT monitor. Everything from the start screen animation to the occasionally jerky background scrolling, the difficulty to the control scheme, the scan lines to the hi-score table it nails it. It takes much more effort to get that X factor, that feeling that you’re actually playing an emulated ROM. Emulating the Commodore 64 SID chip or the NES low pass filter is fine, but it’s all in the composition of the tunes, largely influenced at the time by hard rock and guitar music. There’s the audio of course, but that’s just one element. Some games purport to be 8 bit or 16 bit experiences, but it takes a far more nuanced approach than chunky or pixelated sprites and filtered, lo-res backgrounds to nail the true feel of the golden age of home computer gaming. Hand drawn graphics have charm there’s no doubt about it. Please COMMENT if you down vote - I take the time to create these reviews for this community I'd love your feedback! My reviews are not influenced by general opinions, they do not draw reference to other people’s experiences (unless I’m reviewing couch co-op play), nor are they based on any one particular element rather they are an account of my own experiences, and as a result are entirely subjective – as they should be! I try to be as spoiler-free as possible, but in the interest of providing an honest account, some reveals may be necessary. As with all of my reviews, the verdict below is based purely on my personal time with the game. Please note I play a lot of these games on my 'review' tag, and often before achievements are live. ![]() All jokes aside, the sleeve was perfectly sized and put me at ease knowing no strangers would “mistakenly” take my subscription, if left out in front of the building entrance way. I gathered a few laughs when pulling it from my mailbox, as its glimmering reflection reminded me of a NASA rations packet. We caught a bit of déjà vu when stumbling upon our Quip package, as the sleek, minimalist silver sleeve brought up flashbacks of our MeUndies review. Co-founder Enever mentioned Apple, Harry’s, and Everlane as inspirations for the company.A lifetime guarantee and 30-day refund policy comes with all toothbrushes associated included in active refill plan.Over eight different styles of brush handles are offered between manual and electric.Toothbrushes are best suited for active lifestylers and frequent flyers.Quip has been dubbed the ‘Tesla of toothbrushes’ thus far.All shipments are sent out of Brooklyn, NY: domestic and international (at extra cost). With statistics showing 80% of people use their bristles longer than recommended by dentists, Quip is filling a void for fresh-breath, plaque-free brushers at what many consider to be a resolute value. It runs on a subscription model like most razor subscription services where you’ll purchase a brush first and sign up for brush head refills that are sent out quarterly. The subscription-based toothbrush replacement service continues to expand with its subscription base and sales rising each year, alongside strong reviews backing the product lineup. Each refill comes with a new AAA battery, so you can replace that, and slide it all back in.Industrial designer Simon Enever and product designer Bill May helped launch Quip back in 2015 to simplify oral care, while bringing “sex appeal to the industry” and taking down consumer heavyweights like Phillips and Oral-B. Quip doesn't say if the battery should expire within the three months, but it's still going strong for me. So, what happens when you get a new brush head from Quip? You bend back the brush head and pull it out, and you pull out the motor and the AAA battery underneath. I've tried to trek my Quip and toothpaste between home and work every day, and found that it creates another chance to make a mistake, leading me to forget it in my bag at night. The Quip website suggests that people brush both between meals and at morning and night. ![]() Maybe the big tube is meant to be shared, maybe I wasn't using it enough. Hilburg, though, told me that that size container "would probably be a good amount for three months." Just like with the Quip brush, I didn't feel the need to buy more toothpaste, either, as I hadn't finished their three-month, 4.7-ounce tube of toothpaste. Quip also sells a combined brush head and toothpaste refill package, which ships every three months and costs $10 per refill. ![]() ![]() However, the packaging on my regular-old Oral-B toothbrush also recommends getting a new toothbrush every three months. I've reached out to Quip to see if they'd consider less frequent brush head subscriptions. Not observing any of these issues in my Quip brush head, I've continued to use it. Hilburg told me that the need for new brushes (or brush heads in this case) won't be the same for all brushes, but depends on how "the bristles hold up over time." She elaborated, noting that if "bristles become crushed, lose their shape or become too floppy they are less effective." The Oral-B Pro 1000 costs the same $45 to start, but it sells you eight replacement heads for $13, which breaks down to $1.63 per head, as opposed to the $5 heads from Quip. Compared with other electric toothbrushes with replaceable heads, though, the Quip is affordable at first, but more expensive down the road. ![]() Therefore, we can enter the eye operation, so to speak. We’ve found him to be good, all powerful, merciful, and so much more. In the same way, we as Christians have investigated God. After compiling enough research, enough evidence, they had faith that he would carry out the procedure properly. The interviewee needed a scary operation on his eye, so he and his wife investigated the best eye doctor in the nation. ![]() As discussed in Case for Faith by Lee Strobel, faith comes when we have enough evidence to make an informed decision.įor instance, one of Strobel’s interviewees uses the example of an eye doctor. We do have to keep in mind faith isn’t blind belief. This means that when we encounter doubts, or when we find a passage of Scripture that troubles us, that we choose to hold on to faith. We have to deliberately choose faith in all circumstances. What does this look like?Īs mentioned in this video, we hold onto our faith like a shield. We come to the battle with the other pieces already on our person, but we have to “ take up” the shield of faith. The above passage from Ephesians 6 makes it clear that we need to put on all the pieces of the armor through prayer.īut the shield of faith does seem to stand out from the other pieces of armor. No matter what arrows the devil uses to attack us, we need to take up the shield of faith to protect ourselves from his assaults. Others have said these arrows can represent anything that impedes our spiritual growth such as discontentment or fear. Many have suggested these arrows represent ‘doubt’ (as faith can quench doubt). What do the flaming arrows ( Psalm 7:13, Psalm 120:4) represent? What was the only way to extinguish them and protect the whole body? By having a shield likely as long as a door. In fact, another commentary, by MacLaren, suggests the word used for shield here has a similar root as the word for “door.” This shield would’ve covered the entirety of the body.īack during the time Paul had written this passage, soldiers would set arrows on fire as a battle tactic. ![]() This heavy shield can withstand the impact of fiery blows from the devil.Įllicott’s Commentary agrees with this, showing how the shield in this passage is supposed to protect the full length of the body from the flaming arrows of the devil. The shield of faith, likewise, covers our most vulnerable spots: especially our heart. Especially in the Roman phalanx and legion formation, a soldier could protect most parts of his body with his shield (with the exception of the lower legs and feet). Roman shields, depending on the type, could protect a good portion of the body. When we envision a shield, we may think of a star-spangled one that Captain America holds, or a circular rim that can protect the upper torso at best.īut back when Paul had written this passage in Ephesians, he likely had different imagery in mind. Photo Credit: ©GettyImages/ChristianChan What Is the Shield of Faith in the Bible? Let’s focus in on one element of the armor of God in particular: the shield of faith. ![]() With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.Īnd pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. Your metaphorical armor of God defenses does, however, help you block the blows of the devil as described in Ephesians 6:10-18:įinally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. It’s not a physical set of equipment that a pastor hands out once we’ve said the sinner’s prayer. Of course, the armor of God isn’t a literal outfit of armor. In church, we may have heard about elements of the ‘armor of God’ but never looked deeply into each individual piece of the armor. ![]() With their outstanding eyesight and social behaviour preference, they can easily defend themselves as they tend to stick together in groups. Though it is clear that the zebra has many enemies when it comes to both predators and man, they are not completely defenceless. Human’s farming practice also impact zebras’ feeding grounds as these herbivores’ habitat areas sizes are reduced. Over and above eating this animal’s meat, humans also hunt zebras for their pelts that are then used for various items such as rugs and chair upholstery. The meat of the Burchell’s zebra, a subspecies of the plains zebra, is considered to be edible and packed full of vitamins such as zinc, Vitamin B12 and iron. Sadly, humans are considered to be one of the biggest threats to zebras due to both diet and trade. Although a zebra can sometimes break free and flee the jaws of these powerful animals, the Nile crocodile doesn’t give up easily and it will take tremendous willpower and strength for a zebra to not resign to its fate. To kill their catch, Nile crocodiles will either crush or try to drown them in the water. Then, when the time is right, they strike, clamping down on their prey with a powerful bite that is not easy to get out of. These ambush predators lurk in dam and river waters where the zebras might go for a soothing drink or when they need to cross a body of water. Next zebra predators are crocodiles, which pose a big threat to zebras. African wild dogs typically hunt in packs of six to twenty and some of their easiest zebra prey would be those animals that are ill or have been injured before. These animals, although small in stature, can easily gain the upper hand on a zebra when they are hunting in packs, as seen in the Serengeti. African wild dogsĪnother smaller yet deadly species that target zebras as a food source is the African wild dog. Lone cheetahs will usually hunt young colts however, when they are hunting in packs, this predator of zebras can take down bigger, adult zebras as they have the advantage of numbers, strength and being able to overtake the zebra. With their good eyesight and their speed, they are one of the zebra’s most dangerous enemies. CheetahsĬheetahs are the fastest land animals on earth, reaching speeds of up to 120.7 km/h (75.0 mph). When they attack, they will grab hold of their prey with a strong hold of their jaws before striking blow after lethal blow. ![]() The leopards’ coat makes it easy to be camouflaged in the long grass as they move closer to unsuspecting prey such as the zebra. Although they are smaller than big predators such as lions, they will not hesitate to hunt young or injured zebras. These zebra predators are stealthy hunters who are small in size but have strong muscles and resilience. A pack of 10 to 25 hyenas can easily catch a zebra to feast on. Zebras are often on hyenas’ radar and are hunted along with other prey preferred by the spotted hyenas. Spotted hyenasĪlthough hyenas are known to be scavenger animals that have no qualms digging into other predators’ leftovers during the day, they do hunt for food at night. This tactic enables them to have the element of surprise and to easily take down a strong and healthy zebra. This zebra predators are known to stalk their prey before pouncing. However, a pride of lions can overpower a zebra easily. This is due to zebras being bigger than lions and being able to deliver hard kicks with their hooves. ![]() Zebras are not completely defenceless when it comes to protecting themselves against these much-feared yet respected predators. Let’s take a look at some of the Zebra’s main predators. Although zebras are more than capable of protecting themselves with their sharp hooves and swift kicks, they are unfortunately preyed upon by several predators that have developed a taste for their meat. Added to this, the mountain zebra and the Grévy’s zebra are today listed as endangered species.Īnother threat to zebras’ existence is the presence of predators. Sadly, the zebra population has been affected negatively by the destruction of their habitats and by those hunting them for their skins to create trade products. In the wild, they can be found in various habitats, including grasslands and hills, and they usually prefer environments that do not have dense vegetation. These social animals are classified in three different species: the plains zebra (also known as the common zebra), the mountain zebra and the Grévy’s zebra (also known as the Imperial zebra). With their black and white stripes, zebras are a distinctive wildlife species often seen in game parks, zoos and the wild. Avec QUB musique, écoutez vos artistes musicaux préférés en tout temps.
